When I received this EP from The Los Dos Bros, I accidentally threw it on my kitchen table, where the rest of the mail piles up. It got lost in a month’s worth of sketchy time and mistakenly put on the back burner. Mistakenly being the key word here. When I was cleaning up, I found the disc and gave it a listen. I’m glad I found it.
Okay. iTunes was quick to classify this as “Country.” There is such a stigma associated with that genre of music that people are usually turned off from the get-go. It could be a major conspiracy. It could be a minor mishap. I don’t care. I just know that if this is “Country,” then I like “Country.”
This duo, once being a trio, have released their EP titled Songs for Feeling Strong. The feel that this EP gives is fun and fresh. Just know that you’ll be hearing a mix of instruments when listening to these guys. For instance, the sounds of a trumpet and a tuba might bring you back to eighth grade band class. Then you have the fiddle, piano, and guitar making their appearances as well, leaving this band of instruments in a very unconventional mix, but one that works, in a very conventional way. If you want to smile and play music that lightens the mood to any given situation, you should definitely give this band a chance.

Nothing excites me more than to check my mailbox and there be something in it for me other than junk mail and bills– which inadvertently turn into junk mail, but that’s a whole other story. I recently received a package addressed to Audioholic Media. This excites me more. I tore into it immediately and was surprised to see a really neat CD jacket. As much as people say don’t judge a book by its cover, it still brings out the four-year old in us to see something really unique. So, this is what I saw:

In the notes attached to the disc, this is what I read:
Sleepwalk Kid is a rock trio that mixes the raunchy assault of The Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins with the detailed song craft of Wilco and Elliott Smith. Creating a sound for both thinkers and drinkers.
So, I popped in the CD and let the music do the talking. I find the term sleepwalk not relevant to their music whatsoever, which is a good thing. Who wants to be bored into slumber? You could really classify what these guys are doing as being totally experimental. This means that they’re not scared to try new things. That means that you’re prone to hearing new things. This fuzz-rock sound that they’re creating helped them release their 12-track album Stubborn Keys, which is totally Guitar Hero-worthy.
