Detroit band Prussia have been releasing 10″ vinyls over the last three months to complete the Poor English series. The final installment releases tomorrow on October 18th and will be available for a free stream and download.

The series is lyrically eccentric to say the least. Combine that with the distinct and elaborate sound the band have to offer and it’s the perfect equation for catchy (and abnormal) pop tunes. The video for “What Am I Gonna Tell Your Mom?” is a good example of all of this:

If you wish to catch the band in concert, they will be playing CMJ this year:

10.18.11 New York, NY @ Cake Shop
10.19.11 New York, NY @ Piano’s (Upstairs)
10.20.11 New York, NY @ Cake Shop
10.21.11 Brooklyn, NY @ Union Hall
10.22.11 Brooklyn, NY @ Cameo Gallery

Unless your favorite musician is writing about a heroin addiction or exposing personal journal entries, there’s no reason to actually read what he or she has to say, right? Wrong. Butch Walker, your bi-coastal neighborhood singer/songwriter/producer (and now author), is bringing you a little more than just his Tumblr to read. Drinking With Strangers: Music Lessons From A Teenage Bullet Belt, is Walker’s compiled knowledge on the music industry and will be published by Harper Collins. If you are familiar with Butch Walker on any level, you can expect this read to be anything but dry.

Alan Palomo, also known as Neon Indian, has fallen off the grid for a while, but has thrown up a few red flags to let us know that he’s still up and at it. Since Psychic Chasms in 2009, fans have been anxiously waiting for a sophomore effort.

One sign of life that Neon Indian has released to the public is “Heart: Attack,” the first of a three-part instrumental movement that will be on the upcoming record that is said to release this fall. While prepping for the upcoming album, Palomo released a photograph on Twitter while in the studio with The Antlers. Collaboration anyone?

In the meantime, check out “Heart: Attack,” which was directed by Sam Lopez:

With May approaching, the followup to Hospice is right around the corner. We filled you in on The Antlers and their upcoming album Burst Apart when we saw them play it live in its entirety at this year’s SXSW. It lacked the cohesiveness we all adored in Hospice, but then again, that’s the concept of a concept album.

With that being said, Burst Apart isn’t a bust. It’s actually reassuring to know it’s possible to play any one of the tracks from this album and not have to devote 52 minutes of your time because, let’s face it, in its entirety was the best way to enjoy Hospice.

Burst Apart presents a solid sound and should not be compared to what Hospice offered. Listening unbiasedly is going to be the biggest hurdle for fans of its predecessor, but tracks like “Parentheses” and “French Exit” suggests something new from The Antlers that couldn’t be achieved in the past. If you want to make your own calls on this matter, NPR is currently offering a full stream of Burst Apart for free. If you like what you hear (you will), then catch The Antlers out live:

Chicago’s YAWN, a band with a DIY work ethic, sound like they haven’t been doing it alone. But that’s the point, right? After their EP, YAWN, pushed them to the front of the Fader Fort showcase for SXSW 2010, and it’s been a stream of word of mouth since. (And people are talking.)

The tunes that YAWN are producing are catchy and upbeat, leaving an electric-pop sound seeping through the speakers. If you need to make your own decision, you can download their EP for free.

Playing live with bands such as Yeasayer, Local Natives, Girl Talk, Tanlines, Steel Train and more, the band are no strangers to the stage. While preparing for their debut full-length album (which will hopefully release this summer), YAWN will be playing a handful of shows to keep you satisfied.

It felt like just a few months ago, if anyone uttered the word BRAIDS, it had something to do with little girls and pigtails. The band BRAIDS (not the pigtails) have recently changed all of that and made a pretty impressive imprint in the indie scene.

With SXSW approaching, the number of shows a band can successfully play within the festival’s allotted time seems more like a contest than anything else. BRAIDS will be playing a total of nine SXSW shows this year. In addition to SXSW, the band just extended their tour and added some dates with Toro Y Moi.

Before checking out all of the tour dates, be sure to grab the remix of “Lemonade” that recently premiered on Epitonic.
