Jonquil have been working on a sophomore album and are set to release Point of Go on February 21st via Dovecote Records. In addition to this good news, Jonquil will also be returning to SXSW in March.

If you want a small sample of what Point of Go will offer, then check out “It’s My Part.” The song is a little more stripped down than what Jonquil fans may have become used to in the past, but the track is still very busy and full of pep:

RACES (formerly known as Black Jesus) are getting ready for a full length debut next year, but in the meantime, the band give us a taste with their upcoming EP Big Broom.

The EP will have three tracks and releases November 15th via Frenchkiss Records. RACES definitely have a ’90s feel to them but aren’t stuck there. That’s always comforting.

Detroit band Prussia have been releasing 10″ vinyls over the last three months to complete the Poor English series. The final installment releases tomorrow on October 18th and will be available for a free stream and download.

The series is lyrically eccentric to say the least. Combine that with the distinct and elaborate sound the band have to offer and it’s the perfect equation for catchy (and abnormal) pop tunes. The video for “What Am I Gonna Tell Your Mom?” is a good example of all of this:

We need more BRAIDS. Native Speaker was great, but there just needs to be a little more. Good thing the band will be joining Purity Ring to release a limited edition split 7″ via Fat Possum on October 10th. This limited edition can only be acquired through one of both bands on their North American tour.

“Peach Wedding” is the BRAIDS track that will appear on the 7″ and it doesn’t lack the dreamy pop rhythms and hypnotizing vocals heard on Native Speaker.

With May approaching, the followup to Hospice is right around the corner. We filled you in on The Antlers and their upcoming album Burst Apart when we saw them play it live in its entirety at this year’s SXSW. It lacked the cohesiveness we all adored in Hospice, but then again, that’s the concept of a concept album.

With that being said, Burst Apart isn’t a bust. It’s actually reassuring to know it’s possible to play any one of the tracks from this album and not have to devote 52 minutes of your time because, let’s face it, in its entirety was the best way to enjoy Hospice.

Burst Apart presents a solid sound and should not be compared to what Hospice offered. Listening unbiasedly is going to be the biggest hurdle for fans of its predecessor, but tracks like “Parentheses” and “French Exit” suggests something new from The Antlers that couldn’t be achieved in the past. If you want to make your own calls on this matter, NPR is currently offering a full stream of Burst Apart for free. If you like what you hear (you will), then catch The Antlers out live:

Chicago’s YAWN, a band with a DIY work ethic, sound like they haven’t been doing it alone. But that’s the point, right? After their EP, YAWN, pushed them to the front of the Fader Fort showcase for SXSW 2010, and it’s been a stream of word of mouth since. (And people are talking.)

The tunes that YAWN are producing are catchy and upbeat, leaving an electric-pop sound seeping through the speakers. If you need to make your own decision, you can download their EP for free.
