At 2:26 PST on June 25, 2009, pop icon Michael Jackson was pronounced dead in Los Angeles. Because his music catalog has solidified itself as the soundtrack to various chapters of most of our lives, any encomiums I could list here would almost seem redundant and obvious. The loss is a pretty colossal one within the music industry. Michael Jackson redefined our idea of what pop music is and what it’s capable of.

That said, here’s a video of Michael Jackson performing “Billie Jean” on Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever, during which he performs the Moonwalk for the first time ever.

They just don’t make bass lines like that anymore.
