MGMT Premiere “Kids”
It seems as if you can find videos of MGMT’s song, “Kids,” online from anyone other than MGMT. Not that it’s necessarily a bad thing, but it’s about time we came across the official video from the official band.
I really like this video. It might be my inner guy-who-can’t-stand-screaming-babies, or it might just be that it’s comforting to see that someone brought back really big costumes..and of monsters, nonetheless. This is a twisted version of Sesame Street that everyone in the family can enjoy. Well, almost everyone.
The video opens with this quote:
“He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”
MGMT credit the quote to Mark Twain, but as I’m slowly finding out, the quote is actually from an aphorism published in Friedrich Nietzsche’s, Beyond Good and Evil. The video itself is extremely satirical in regard to today’s careless mother, so it makes me think that maybe in some twisted (non) pretentious way, MGMT slid that in there for a few laughs.

In a sense, maybe this was MGMT’s creative way of rehashing history and giving credit to where it was due…if you do the research.
Regardless, I give props to the parent who signed their kid up for this video because they also just signed up for years of pissed beds, antisocial disorders, and large amounts of therapy bills.
