Metric’s new video for “Gimme Sympathy” is a pain in the ass to explain– but it’s also really cool. Let me put it this way: if you’ve ever believed that the members of Metric have X-Men-style shape-shifting powers in which the drummer, Joules Scott-Key, can morph himself into lead singer Emily Haines as soon as you turn your back, prepare to have your mind blown and your beliefs confirmed… just don’t watch the behind-the-scenes video. And give me your lunch money. Nerd.

Shot in just one long, continuous take, the camera pans from one member to another as the four members of Metric alternate between instruments and change outfits. While each of the three dudes in the band take their turn behind the microphone, none of them take the opportunity to utilize the super-cuteness of Haines’ mini-dress.

Shame.
