Introducing: The Submarines

Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti form the band The Submarines. Some people say business and pleasure don’t mix. The Submarines, on the other hand, beg to differ–they’re married. This duo have released a slew of albums and EPs in the last few years and seem to be doing things right.
We know what a remix is. We hear them all the time. The radio blares the same song with a different twist and we try to figure out what exactly it is that sets the two versions apart. The Submarines are good at creating that twist, and they proved that when they released two EPs of remixed tracks from their latest album, Honeysuckle Weeks. They collaborate with different bands (like Ra Ra Riot) for these mixes and create an electric-pop feel that reminds you of the Bond girl theme songs that you just can’t shake.
Kind of like love, I guess. Something these two know something about.
Yeah, their remix EPs are fun, but the originality behind that fun still lingers in Honeysuckle Weeks and should not be ignored. The EPs stand alone, but their original work does something more.
The way I look at it, How could you remix something that wasn’t good to begin with? On that note, this band takes simplicity and puts their own twist on it, which ultimately sets them up to take some more twists and turns (in their remixes). If you don’t believe me, listen to this track from their (un-mixed) album, Honeysuckle Weeks:
