Introducing: The Bloodsugars

The Bloodsugars surfaced in Brooklyn’s indie scene back in 2008 when they released their BQEP EP. (Can I buy another vowel, please?) After making their presence known in New York, The Bloodsugars are seeking a wider audience by supporting their latest album, I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On in any way they can.

According to the band’s frontman Jason Rabinowitz, the new album is a “modern prom playlist.” That’s not implying that the album is about spiked punch and fondling your date on the dance floor. It’s about the pains of awkward times and finding something to celebrate even when the shit hits the fan. They master this theme by making sure there is enough synth-pop to back their spirits. Their sharp lyrics find a way to blend into the environment for the entire album, although each track finds its own way to stand alone (kind of like 10 individual ecosystems). If you like music you can dance to while you’re thinking, then be sure to check out I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On.

If that reminded you of a modern version of “Take On Me,” then you’re not alone. When they’re not making you reminisce of the ’80s, The Bloodsugars like to tour. Not many dates left, but you can still catch them at any one of the following shows:

11.11.09 Minneapolis, MN @ Sauce
11.12.09 Chicago, IL @ Darkroom
11.13.09 Cincinnati, OH @ Northside Tavern
11.14.09 Pittsburgh, PA @ Brillobox
11.21.09 New York, NY @ Studio at Webster Hall
