Don’t be fooled by their name, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros aren’t a group of superheroes. No laser beams or mind fucks here, just the kind of group that tells tales. Not in the sense where they’re making random stuff up in order to gain attention from the tabloids, but in the sense that their music could easily be ripped from Man of La Mancha if there were a remake in the works any time soon.

There are many bands that have to try hard for the rustic edge that comes naturally with the music from ESTMZ. The band, formed by Ima Robot‘s frontman, Alex Ebert, usually consists of no less than ten members at all times. ESTMZ have an interesting and powerful stage presence that is gaining a lot of attention. During live shows it’s not uncommon to see someone gaze at the stage and declare, “It’s Jesus.” When the band is in full character, they paint a portrait comparable to The Last Supper. It’s a spiritual (not spiritual) experience.
