Introducing: Bobby Long

Bobby Long’s voice sounds as if it’s about 30 years older than it is. I guess if you kicked a really pretty and melodic voice around in the dirt for twenty minutes, then poured whiskey on it, you’d have Bobby Long– and I really do mean that in the most complimentary way. It’s a bit surprising to hear such a mature sound from someone who co-wrote a song for the movie, Twilight (cue shrill, pre-pubescent shrieking from tweenagers across the country).

Long’s MySpace page has been my accidental soundtrack to Valentine’s weekend. Though having a song featured in one of the most-anticipated movies of 2008 would definitely count as a lucky break, it takes more than just luck to write songs and play music. By taking a minimalist’s approach to his deliberate songwriting, Bobby Long’s music manages to remain laid-back without being lazy.

Based out of London and currently working on his first EP, Bobby Long will be playing a few U.S. dates in April. It’s been rumored that more dates are expected to be added within the coming months, but shows in both New York and Los Angeles have already been confirmed.
