Amoeba Music and Free Music Downloads

We’re still kinda stuck on this Record Store Day thing. Because every day should be Record Store Day!… right? Besides, if record stores become the dinosaur version of iTunes, where will all those dudes with ponytails and goatees disperse their endless knowledge on every album ever recorded?!

Imagine a world where you have to explain the entire concept of High Fidelity to your children. Is it really even worth having kids at that point? (I kid– no pun.)

It’s no secret that Amoeba Music is one of those record stores that represents the apex of what a record store can be. With a fiercely independent spirit and a profound sense of community, Amoeba has embraced the changing industry and continues to survive by growing with the times, rather than existing in spite of them.

Amoeba Music– with locations in Hollywood, San Francisco, and Berkeley, California– has become a necessary tour stop for both indie and independent-minded musicians. From Does It Offend You, Yeah? to Flight of the Conchords, the three Amoeba locations open their stages to a wide array of artists. And they want to share it with you. For free.

If you don’t live in the California area, you can still view the in-store performances on the Amoeba website. If you’re more interested in adding an “I Love Amoeba Music!!” playlist to your iPod, the site also offers mp3 downloads of tracks from the performances they host. All free. No email. No sign-up. Not even a zip code.
… But, let’s not disappoint our parents– a thank you would be nice. And they do have a Buy Stuff area…
