So much summer out this week, it’s glorious, but there’s a big lack of major label releases and only one culprit: vampires. The Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack is a behemoth I would not wish upon any competitor entering the ring this week, but for any of you looking beyond [...]
Dirty Projectors are keeping busy touring but not too busy to not take a stab at Bob Dylan’s “I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine.” Normally taking their audience on a musical head-spin, the group toned it down for this cover and polished up Dylan’s already simple track. When teamed against David Longstreth, the harmonies of [...]
In their latest album, Strict Joy, the Swell Season‘s Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová proved that they not only understand ’70s soul but that they’re pretty damn good at it. This duo recently took another challenge from that decade and added disco to their resume when they covered Candi Staton’s “Young Hearts Run Free” for [...]
We’ve always been pretty shameless in regard to our devotion to Ernie Halter. In addition to co-writing songs with Jason Gambill (of Lady Antebellum) and Demi Lovato, the singer/songwriter will hit the road this summer with Tony Lucca for the Reunited (And It Feels So Good) Tour and is releasing his third studio LP, Franklin [...]
Premiered over at Stereogum, Jamie Lidell‘s newest video is for his song “Telephone” and features Lidell (obviously) and a pretty lady who basically just wants to be your telephone, whatever that means. According this video, it means exactly this:

The Brooklyn band who found themselves on practically every music-based Best Of list and hocketing all over late night shows last year have announced some fall tour dates. Though the list is not yet as expansive someone in, say, Kansas would hope, the band will share the stage with Owen Pallett, Happy Birthday and Dominique [...]
In typical Metric fashion, the band has released a new kick ass, high energy video with Emily Haines in a great dress and giving you bedroom eyes. The video for “Stadium Love” features various scenes of hardcore animals fighting and eating each other, just like on Animal Planet. It’s kind of exciting but mostly unsettling.
“Stadium [...]
In more festival lineup announcement news, San Francisco’s Outside Lands lineup has been announced as well. The festival will be held August 14-15 in Golden Gate Park and a portion of every ticket sold will benefit San Francisco’s Recreation and Park Department. Saturday’s headliner, Further, brings Phil Lesh and Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead [...]
Now celebrating ten years in the festivaling business, the lineup for the Portland-based music festival Musicfest NW has been unveiled. Lots of familiar faces to the PDX music community on this list, particularly because a lot of the bands are from the area. Is that cheating? You decide:
The Decemberists
The National
Okkervil River
Major Lazer
Sleep performing Holy Mountain
Menomena
The [...]
